Designed in 2012, this original illustrated map of Stoke Newington, a neighbourhood in north London, UK, is inspired by decorative antique map prints and is entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured.
The design highlights the area's rich history and culture. At left are the arms of two historic landowners, later combined in the former Borough of Stoke Newington (now part of Hackney).
Illustrations show St Mary’s Church from Clissold Park (bottom left) and the Lion pub on Church Street (top right). The border takes inspiration from Georgian window frames, reflecting the area's architectural heritage.
Locations featured on the map include: Abney Park Cemetery, Albion Road, Clissold Leisure Centre, Clissold Park, Green Lanes, Lordship Road, Newington Green, Rectory Road, Shacklewell Lane, Stoke Newington Common, Stoke Newington Road and High Street.
