This is an original illustrated map of Lambeth, a borough of London, UK, inspired by decorative antique map prints and entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured.
Its decoration scheme references the area's rich diversity, culture and history. The coat of arms at the left of the image is the official arms of the borough. The two illustrations at top left and bottom right show views of the Tudor gatehouse of Lambeth Palace (the residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury) and Brixton Windmill respectively. The flags hanging from the top corners of the border reference the ethnic communities that are abundant in the borough; the flags of Jamaica and Trinidad represent the Afro-Caribbean community of Brixton whilst the flags of Brazil and Portugal represent the community of people from those countries resident in Stockwell and South Lambeth.
