This is an original illustrated map of Kensington & Chelsea, a borough of London, UK, inspired by decorative antique map prints and entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured.
The decorative scheme reflects the borough’s rich culture, diversity, and history. At the top is the official coat of arms; flanking the sides are shields representing the Ladbroke, Holland, Sloane, and Cadogan families - historic landowners still echoed in local street names. Illustrations include the Royal Hospital in Chelsea (bottom left), home of the Chelsea Pensioners, and Kensington Palace (top right), residence of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and a symbol of the borough’s royal status. The border design, inspired by Thomas Moule’s 1830 map of Oxfordshire, subtly nods to the antiques trade of Portobello Market and the area's enduring affluence.
