La Catedral de Santa María (English: the Cathedral of St. Mary) at Burgos, the historic capital of Castile, is one of the most spectacular examples of northern Gothic architecture in Spain. Construction began in the 1220s, and the distinctive twin spires were added in the mid-15th century.
