Designed in 2012, this original illustrated map of Brixton in south London, UK, is inspired by decorative antique map prints and is entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured.
The design reflects the area's rich cultural and historical heritage. Bottom left is Lambeth Town Hall, opened in 1908, and top left is the iconic Brixton Academy, a former cinema turned music venue.
The coats of arms on the right represent three major 19th-century landowners whose land sales spurred Brixton's rapid Victorian development. The border is inspired by Art Deco motifs from the Brixton Academy’s façade.
