This is an original illustrated map of Greenwich, a borough of London, UK, inspired by decorative antique map prints and entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured.
Its decoration scheme references the area's rich diversity, culture and history. The coat of arms at the left of the image is the new official arms of the borough, adopted to celebrate the new Royal status bestowed on the borough in 2012, a privilege which is also represented by the crown at top left. Two illustrations at bottom left and right show views of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park and Severndroog Castle on Shooter's Hill. The border decoration is inspired by the nautical heritage of both Greenwich and Woolwich; within each corner of the border are four images that further symbolize this heritage (clockwise from top left): a marine chronometer (a device for accurately measuring time on long sea voyages), a ship's wheel, an anchor, and a sextant.
