This map traces the journey of writer and poet Laurie Lee (1914–1997) across Spain from 1935 to 1936, as recounted in his acclaimed memoir As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning (1969).

Leaving his home in the west of England, Lee worked briefly in London before sailing to Vigo, Spain. He then travelled on foot across the country for a year - naïve, underprepared, and earning money by playing his violin. His route took him through cities like Valladolid, Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Cádiz, and Gibraltar, ending in the fishing village of Almuñécar, where he witnessed the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War.

The design includes illustrations of eight key locations as they appeared in the 1930s, along with a depiction of Lee walking across the Spanish landscape. The map also labels Spanish regions by their historical English names.
