Designed in 2017, this is an original map of the City of London, UK, inspired by the elegant visual style of early twentieth-century guidebook maps.
The City of London is the historic core of the metropolis of London, and is unique in having its own local authority, Lord Mayor and police force. Its modern boundaries closely follow that of the ancient Roman settlement founded in the 1st century AD and the subsequent medieval city. Today it is a major centre of international business and finance, to the extent that the name 'The City' is now synonymous with those industries in the UK.
All streets, railway termini, stations, landmarks, parks, gardens, lakes and bridges are all carefully delineated and labelled. The courses of the underground railway lines are marked by dashed black lines, as is the course of the former Roman Wall.
The design is finished with a simple, elegant border and title, a symbol key and scale bar along the bottom edge, and illustrations of St Paul's Cathedral and the Royal Exchange at the top left and right corners.
