This is an original illustrated map of the City of London, UK, inspired by decorative antique map prints and the designs of MacDonald Gill (1884-1947), entirely hand-drawn and digitally coloured.

The City of London (not to be confused with the city of London as a whole) is unique in having its own local authority separate to the Greater London Authority - the City of London Corporation - as well as it own Lord Mayor and police force. Its modern boundaries closely correspond with those of the ancient Roman city founded in the 1st century AD and those of the medieval city that followed. Today it is a major centre of international business and finance, to the extent that the name 'The City' is now synonymous with those industries in the UK.

The map's decoration scheme references the area's rich diversity, culture and history. The coat of arms at the top centre is the official arms of the City Of London, whilst along the left and right hand edges are twelve shields representing the 'Great Twelve' Livery Companies, or historic trade guilds. Many important and historic landmarks and places of interest are drawn in elevation on the map, and their locations are pinpointed with numbers and listed in a key. The locations of all local railway and tube stations are also pinpointed by symbols.

The border decoration is inspired by classical architecture, featuring two corinthian column supporting a lintel; this makes reference to both the original Roman founders of the city, and the neo-classical architecture that abounds, the Bank of England and St. Paul's Cathedral being two prominent examples. The compass design at the top right is designed to resemble a coin, a further reference to the finance industry that has prevailed here for centuries.
